APALA Conference Travel Award 2012

Heading to the Anaheim this summer? Need help getting there? Apply for the APALA Travel Award.  The APALA Travel Award will provide $500.00 to support attendance at the 2012 American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference.  The Travel Award will fund one APALA member (librarian or library/information school student) to attend the conference and will be used to help cover registration and travel expenses.  We hope that you will apply for the award and encourage others that you know to do so as well.

Digital Public Library of America West offers travel scholarships for students



On behalf of the Digital Public Library of America Steering Committee, I would like to invite you and your community to attend the DPLA’s second major public event, DPLA West<http://dp.la/get-involved/events/dplawest/>, taking place on April 27, 2012 in San Francisco. Convened by the DPLA Secretariat at the Berkman Center for Internet & Society and co-hosted by the Internet Archive and the San Francisco Public Library, the event will assemble a wide range of stakeholders in a broad, open forum to facilitate innovation, collaboration, and connections across the DPLA effort. DPLA West will also showcase the work of the interim technical development team and continue to provide opportunities for public participation in the work of the DPLA.

Limited scholarships to support participation in DPLA West are available for those who are traveling from distant areas. We heartily encourage your students to apply by Friday, March 2. Scholarship amounts will vary, but are intended to apply to travel and accommodation costs for out-of-town participants. Preference will be given to applicants who have not yet attended a DPLA event.

Travel Grant Competition to Use Special Collections at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri

Application Deadline: March 15, 2012. Travel must occur between May 15, 2012 and June 30, 2013.

Travel reimbursement grants of up to $1000 are available to faculty, graduate students, undergraduates, and independent scholars who would like to use our collections for research. Funds may be used for transportation, food, lodging, and photocopying. Applicants must reside at least 50 miles from St. Louis.

The Department of Special Collections is a multi-faceted research institution that contains materials related to a wide variety of academic disciplines. Below is a listing of some of our major collections:

Film and Media Archive: The Film and Media Archive is committed to the preservation of documentary film and other media which chronicle America’s great political and social movements, with a particular emphasis on the African-American experience. The collections of prominent filmmakers Henry Hampton (Eyes on the Prize) and William Miles (I Remember Harlem) include hundreds of hours of high quality programming and feature a comprehensive and diverse array of primary interviews, photos, archival footage, and written documents gathered and generated during the film production process. Manuscripts: Collections of literary papers, press archives, and magazine archives. The bulk of the collection consists of the papers of major 20th-century literary figures including James Merrill, Samuel Beckett, Howard Nemerov, Stanley Elkin, William Gass, Mona Van Duyn, and many others. Modern Graphic History Library: Dedicated to acquiring and preserving distinguished works of modern illustration and pictorial graphic culture. Focusing on artists’ working materials and sketches as well as finished artworks, the range of the collection extends from book, magazine, and advertising illustration to graphic novels, comics, poster design, pictorial information design, and animation. In addition, the collection also contains the archives of fine artists like Ernest Trova that have a relationship with popular culture and mass media. Rare Books: Collection strengths include the history of books and printing, especially the English Arts & Crafts movement; the book arts; semeiology and the history of non-verbal communication; a collection of Little Black Sambo books and related objects; and 19th- and 20th-century British and American literature complementing the modern literary archives housed in the manuscript unit. University Archives: The Washington University Archives is comprised of more than 300 unique collections. Most collections chronicle the history of Washington University from 1853 to the present day. These diverse collections range from the writings of University co-founder William G. Eliot, to student produced publications, and professional and personal papers of faculty members such as Arthur Holly Compton. Other collections relate to 20th-century St. Louis history, with a focus on business, transportation, politics, social welfare, urban planning, and architecture. USAIN conference scholarships available

The USAIN (United States Agriculture Information Network) Awards Committee is pleased to announce we are now accepting applications for our biennial conference scholarships. We look forward to hearing from you!

  

CONFERENCE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR MEMBERS NEW TO USAIN OR AGRICULTURAL INFORMATION

Two $1000.00 scholarships to be applied to the costs of attending the USAIN 2012 conference are available to library school graduates who are USAIN members new to the field of agricultural information (less than three years) or first time USAIN Conference attendees. The conference will be held April 29 – May 2, 2012 at University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

To apply, send a cover letter including name, address, e-mail address, and phone number along with job title/description, place of employment and length of time spent in the agricultural information field, and/or a statement as a first-time attendee.

Also, submit an essay on a separate page or pages. The essay should be double-spaced, no more than 750 words, and address the 2012 conference theme: “Soil, Water, Food and Energy: Agriculture in an Era of Global Climate Change.”

Essays will be judged on the basis of thoughtfulness, quality of writing, and adherence to application guidelines as described above. Submitted essays will not be returned.

Checks will be presented to the recipients at the USAIN Awards ceremony at the Conference. USAIN reserves the right to withhold the awards if there are no suitable applicants.

Deadline is December 14, 2011.

Scholarship recipients will be notified by February 12, 2012.

RUSA’s Zora Neale Hurston Award

The deadline for the Zora Neale Hurston Award is December 15th, so there is
still time to make a submission! This award  from RUSA/CODES honors ALA members
who have
demonstrated leadership in promoting African American literature through
projects such as a program, display, collection building efforts, a special
readers’ advisory focus, or innovation in service.

The winner will receive  $1250.00 in funds to attend the ALA Annual Conference,
tickets to the Literary Tastes breakfast and the FOLUSA Author tea, and a set
of the Zora Neale Hurston books published by Harper Perennial.

OSU & Digital Library Federation Sponsoring 5 Scholarships to Promote Gender & Cultural Diversity for travel to Code4Lib

Oregon State University and the Digital Library Federation are
sponsoring five scholarships to promote gender and cultural diversity.
Each scholarship will provide up to $1,000 to cover travel costs and
conference fees for one qualified attendee to attend the 2012 Code4Lib
Conference, which will be held in Seattle, Washington, from
Monday,February 6 through Thursday, February 9.

The Code4Lib scholarship committee will award two scholarships per
category, awarding the remaining scholarship to the best remaining
candidate in either category.  The Code4Lib scholarship committee will
award these scholarships based on merit and need.


ELIGIBILITY:
Applicants, if eligible, may apply for both scholarships, but no
applicant will receive more than one scholarship. Past winners of
either scholarship are not eligible for either scholarship.
Scholarship recipients will be required to write a short trip report
to be submitted to the scholarships committee by February 17, 2012.

The Minority Scholarships will provide up to $1,000 to cover travel
costs and conference fees for two qualified applicants to attend the
2012 Code4Lib Conference. To qualify for this scholarship, an
applicant must be interested in actively contributing to the mission
and goals of the Code4Lib Conference and must be of Hispanic or
Latino, Black orAfrican-American, Asian, Native Hawaiian or Pacific
Islander, or American Indian or Alaskan Native descent.

EBSCO offering 7 Scholarship to 2012 ALA Annual Conference

EBSCO offers seven scholarships to librarians attending 2012 ALA Annual Conference

CHICAGO - The American Library Association (ALA) and EBSCO are partnering to offer seven scholarships for librarians to attend the 2012 ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif. The meeting takes place June 21 - 26, 2012 and offers an opportunity for continuing education, meetings and interaction with colleagues.

Each EBSCO scholarship will be in the amount of $1,000. The scholarship money is to be used for conference registration, travel and expenses.

Deadline for entry is Dec. 1, 2011; scholarship recipients will be notified no later than March 1, 2012.  To apply, candidates must complete the application and submit an essay that addresses the following topic: “How will attending this ALA Conference contribute to my professional development?” Essays and applications will be judged by a jury designated by ALA.

3M/NMRT Conference Award 2012
